Scott Harris / Owner & Founder

Born in Mississippi and raised in West Virginia, I’m a Southerner and hillbilly at heart.  So, I’m happy to be living in the South again after college in the Midwest and a finance career that took me to New York, Switzerland and the Channel Islands.

It was after I moved to the Tar Heel state that I noticed how run down I felt, all the time.  So, I embarked on a journey to regain my health. Yes, I was getting a little older, but I knew there was more to it.  And while juicing helped me get back on track, that wasn’t all.  Reducing sugar and animal products in my diet, exercising more, changing careers, spending time outside, and connecting to an amazing community of like-minded business owners have all led me to this place in life. There are always challenges, but I am very grateful.

My tasks at Viva Raw vary considerably from day to day: orchestrate our fantabulous staff, sell juice, pay bills, take out the garbage, reassure customers when they feel daunted by the thought of drinking only juice for three days…  It’s the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. And I love it all.

I am passionate about nourishing, delicious food for sure. But even more importantly, I’m concerned about our lack of connection in the modern world: to each other, to the Divine, to ourselves, to creation and of course, to our food and where it comes from. This is what we’re ultimately designed for, so fostering connection is our ultimate mission.

I am obviously a big fan of juice cleanses but got very sick my first go ‘round. I didn’t realize there was a right way and a wrong way to do it. Sure, I felt great once it was over, but wow…getting through it was tough. Now I follow the same regimen we give to customers and it’s much smoother sailing!

A little trivia about me: I enjoy riding bikes and raced at the local amateur level before starting up Viva Raw.  I like to think the racing somehow made up for my infamous Little League Baseball career which ended abruptly with a concussion and a trip to the ER!

Eyda Alvarez / Certified Food Scientist

I was born in Bogotá, Colombia and moved to the United States 13 years ago. I graduated as a Food Scientist in 1999, have a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management and have always been interested in healthy lifestyles. My kids have fur, I have a dog (Sashi) and a cat (Ace) and have always been interested in educating people on the cruelty behind factory farming.

I work as Viva Raw’s Certified Food Scientist. I love what we do here, what we stand for and how aligned the philosophy of this company is with who I am.

My true passion is Vegan Cuisine, I have a dream of being able to feed people healthy, satisfying and nutrient-dense foods without the use of any animal products. I also love painting, I can get lost for hours when I am in front of a canvas.

I have done several Viva Raw cleanses and my experience has always been different. For instance, my first cleanse was the most challenging, I did a 7-day all pure green cleanse, felt lightheaded the first 3 days but by the 4th day I was seeing all so clearly. On my last cleanse I substituted the Good Carrma juice with Quintessential Cabbage and added some daily meditation. It was so enlightening. I love how my body, mind and soul felt.

Fun trivia: my first 2 jobs were TV commercials when I was 14 and 15 years old.


Kaido Kaareste / General Manager

I was born in a northern European country called Estonia.  I moved to the United States when I turned 18 and my journey began in Atlanta.  From there, I moved to Fort Lauderdale before eventually landing in Charlotte in 2014.  Growing up, my family always had a piece of land where fresh fruits and vegetables would grow.  We’d harvest enough for the entire family and enough to get us through the off-season.  Jarred pickles, fresh canned juices and dried nuts and potatoes were a few of our winter favorites. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and being one with nature.  I learned to value food that is fresh and minimally processed and eventually became a vegan in 2014 after omitting meat and dairy from my diet.  When this opportunity at Viva Raw arose, I knew it was a perfect match to be able to work with the food I enjoy and love, and also become a part of this amazing community.

At Viva Raw, I wear many different hats as General Manager. I work in the kitchen as a juicer and assist with the preparation of the produce and label applications before they go out the door. I also drive our delivery van which has been an amazing experience to be able to have that personal interaction when I bring our product to our clients.

I am truly passionate about enjoying and living life without fear and squeezing in a little beach volleyball when I can.  I also love the mountains, long hikes and of course, traveling.  To date, I have been to over 20 countries in Europe, and North and South America.

Viva Raw cleanses have been an all-encompassing experience for me: fun, light, exciting, tasty, and spiritual.  It’s also somewhat challenging at times but a great reminder to allow my inner-self guide me through it during my time spent meditating.

Fun fact about me – I’m 6’4″ and drive a Toyota Yaris.  Most people can’t believe I can fit in it, but I love it!


 


Jordan Allen / Marketing Manager

My name is Jordan and I am a native Charlottean. I graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science. I am avid about combining physical fitness and good nutrition. I enjoy running, volleyball, good local food and coffee, music, and hanging out in nature. I live a pretty simple life and love every minute of it.

I primarily focus on marketing and social media for Viva Raw, but occasionally sell juice at the juice bar inside 7th Street Public Market as well.

I am passionate about eating clean and motivating others to lead healthy and happy lives. I am also a passionate runner. I began running when I was 12, and although I have had to overcome some setbacks in my running, I still train and now compete in longer events such as half marathons and marathons.

Cleansing is a spiritual experience for me. I have to mentally prepare not to think about eating, but once I am in it, I am free of the burdens to consume food. I find that cleansing allows me to think more clearly and experience life from a deeper and different perspective. It not only renews my body, but my mind and soul as well. I always feel great after a cleanse and in some ways almost hate to go back to eating.

Fun trivia, I have studied in Prague and worked on a farm in the outskirts of the Czech Republic.


Eliza Wizenberg / Kitchen Manager

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and grew up in the south of France, on the French Riviera. I also lived in New York City, where I did my undergraduate studies. I moved to Charlotte, NC, in May 2013 and absolutely love it!

Having grown up on a Mediterranean diet, coupled with my French upbringing, I have always valued healthy, balanced, good quality nutrition. We truly are what we eat and I believe that out of respect for one’s self, it’s important to give your body what it deserves in order to be healthy, happy and balanced.

I work as the Kitchen Manager for Viva Raw. I am the face behind all of our non-dairy cheeses, and I also help prepare a variety of different produce combinations that result in Viva Raw’s delicious and healthy juice blends.

I very much enjoy traveling and meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds. I am passionate about animals, nature and healthy living.

During my first Viva Raw cleanse, I definitely felt hungry in between meals, although drinking the Pro Fuel kept me feeling satiated the longest. Naturally, you have to stay focused especially when you happen to be around the smell and/or the sight of food; Therefore, throughout the cleanse I drank water often, as well as some decaffeinated tea with no sugar, on occasion, to help curb the feeling of hunger. Also, even though on the third and last day I felt a low in energy and a little light headed, I think the cleanse, overall, makes you think clearer. Moreover, it is a great way to foster discipline with regards to food appreciation. I think the cleanse can re-teach your mind and body to differentiate between the actual feeling of hunger and the want to just snack; it can help re-teach your mind and body to recognize when you’re actually satiated over the want to eat more just for the sake of eating.
